The challenge
How do you tell the story of a company that is changing its name, ownership and identity, while assuring stakeholders that the strength of the business has not changed?
That was the challenge behind HBM Nigeria PLC’s transition from Lafarge Africa PLC. Following Huaxin Cement’s acquisition of Holcim’s 83.81% stake, the business entered a new chapter, marking a significant shift in ownership and corporate identity while building on decades of history in Nigeria.
The report needed to acknowledge the change without making the past feel obsolete, introduce the new identity while retaining the confidence stakeholders had built in Lafarge, and communicate strength, value and continuity at a moment when everyone was asking what came next. Behind the scenes, it also had to bring together the perspectives of outgoing and incoming leadership.
Our approach
We worked closely with the teams involved to separate what belonged to the company’s established story from what signalled its future direction. We brought different inputs into one editorial voice, kept materiality at the centre and stayed grounded in what stakeholders needed to know.
In unfamiliar territory, we chose not to play it safe. We helped the business find a visual and editorial identity that belonged to its new chapter while respecting the equity of the brand that came before it, confident and contemporary without losing the credibility expected of a listed company.

The result
An honest account of a business moving from one identity to another, demonstrating that its underlying strengths, capabilities and commitment to Nigeria remained central to the story. An annual report designed not to close one chapter, but to help stakeholders understand the next one.
